Educational Programmes
CDNIS is a non-profit organization that provides a “through-train” education to students from Pre Reception to Grade 12. It provides a curriculum in English with Mandarin as a second language. The school has strengths in the areas of technology, sports and the arts, and offers extensive extra-curricular opportunities to help students develop their interests and expand their horizons. The school aims to help students become well-rounded, responsible global citizens and leaders with a lifelong passion for learning.
CDNIS is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The school is authorized to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to students in Pre Reception through Grade 6, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to students in Grades 7 to 10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) to students in Grades 11 and 12. The graduating class of 2010 was the first to complete the full IB Diploma.
In addition, CDNIS is authorized to grant the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). In Grades 9 to12, all CDNIS students are required to fulfil the requirements of both the IB Diploma and the OSSD; successful students therefore earn two diplomas upon graduation. While this does give CDNIS students an advantage, each diploma has a unique set of criteria, which add a degree of complexity to course selection for Upper School (US) students.
One of the best ways for parents to learn more about these programmes is to attend the Curriculum Nights held at the beginning of the school year. At Curriculum Nights, parents have a chance to meet their child’s teachers and learn about what their child will be studying. Curriculum Nights are scheduled:
- 15 September Grades 3-6
- 20 September Pre Reception to Grade 2
- 21 September Lower School Specialist and Single Subject Teachers
- 22 September Upper School Grades 7-12
In addition, students in Grades 9-12 are given an US Course Calendar to assist with course selection.
