NEW STUDENTS and PARENTS, WELCOME TO UPPER SCHOOL AT CDNIS!
New Upper School students and parents are invited to attend the Orientation for New Upper School Parents and Students on August 15, 2018, Wednesday, from 9:30am-1:20pm. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet other parents and students who are joining CDNIS this school year. For more information about back to school, see the CDNIS Start of School Guide.
Parents and students will meet in the Leo Lee Arts Centre (LLAC Lobby) by 9:30am.
MANDARIN PLACEMENT ASSESSMENTS
From the LLAC Lobby, Student Ambassadors will take new students to their Mandarin Placement Assessments in the Chinese Cultural Centre. New students in Grades 7-11 who will take Chinese in this academic year have need to take a Mandarin Placement Assessment. Information on the different streams and levels can be found via this link. Students who are new to Chinese or not taking it at all will receive an orientation by a Student Ambassador.
NEW UPPER SCHOOL PARENT ORIENTATION
While new students undergo their assessments, parents will meet with members of the Senior Leadership Team and other Upper School staff. The New Upper School Parent Orientation will take place from 10:15 am-12:00 pm in the LLAC, covering important aspects of school life, the academic program, guidance and counselling services, athletics, and more. There will be a casual Q & A session during lunch from 12:30 – 1:00 pm for those who have specific questions. Please complete the CDNIS Upper School New Parent/Student Orientation – Online Registration Form by Friday, July 27 if you wish to attend.
LEARNING & TEACHING TECHNOLOGY ORIENTATION
Students will also participate in the Learning & Teaching Technology (LTT) Orientation from 12:45pm-2:00pm in Room 706. Students will be introduced to the use of Apple laptops and software for school use. Please ensure you have ordered the appropriate laptop and bring it with you if you have received it. A learner laptop will be provided to students that have not yet received theirs. Please see the 1:1 MacBook programme regarding Upper School laptop requirements. The Canadian International School Parents Association (CISPA) will be providing breakfast and lunch in the LLAC lobby for all new Upper School Parents attending the orientation. CISPA volunteers will also be there to answer questions about school life, provide directions, tell you more about our programs, and welcome you to the school!
