Save the date for Lit Blitz!

Look out for Lit Blitz!

Lit Blitz is an annual celebration of books and literacy at CDNIS! The CISPA Literacy Committee, in partnership with CDNIS faculty and staff, plan three fun-filled weeks of special events and fun activities that promote excitement and joy in reading. This year, Lit Blitz runs from September 24 to October 12, and theme is “See Yourself in a Book”.

When children are given the opportunity to choose their own books, they are far more likely to read them, and cultivate a love of reading. CISPA makes it very convenient for CDNIS students to pick from the latest titles with the Scholastic Book Club. The Book Club will run four times this school year, in September, November, January and April. To view the full order schedule, click the following link: Scholastic Book Club Schedule 2018-2019.

The first round will start on September 19 with flyer distribution to classes. The deadline to order will be Friday, September 28, 2018.

From Tuesday, October 2 to Friday, October 5, the LLAC Lobby becomes a big bookstore during the CDNIS Book Fair! This year Bookazine (English), Fun to Read (English), and Cosmos Books (Chinese) will all be on hand with the most popular and up-and-coming books for CDNIS students. Students can visit the Fair with their classes or at recess and lunch times. Students will need to be with an adult to browse the book fair during non-school hours.

Tuesday, October 2 through Friday, October 12, 2018, grab a pumpkin and your paintbrushes and join the Storybook Pumpkin Showcase! This is an event for all students and their families. Decorate a pumpkin in the spirit of your favourite children’s literary character with paint, glitter, feathers, or whatever else tickles your fancy. Bring your Storybook Pumpkins to the library anytime between October 2-12 to be on display for all to see. Check out this link for some pumpkin inspiration!

Note: Only whole pumpkins or plastic pumpkins will be accepted. Please do not submit carved pumpkins. Mushy pumpkins and library books don’t mix!

On Monday, October 8, 2018 David Schwarz, US-based author of best-selling books including “How Much is a Million?”, “If you Made a Million”, “Millions to Measure”, and “If you Hopped Like A Frog” will visit CDNIS. Mr. Schwartz delivers innovative workshops that connect math and science with literature and daily life. He makes math and reading fun, all at once!

On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, the CDNIS Library will transform into the United Nations of books and literature. Parent volunteers from CDNIS will host over 20 different nation tables featuring books, authors and beloved characters from that country. Do you want to volunteer for International Library Day? It’s time to put Lit Blitz to bed. How else to best wrap up three weeks of fun around books and reading than with a pyjama party? On Friday, October 12, 2018, students are invited to come to school on their pyjamas and enjoy a pancake lunch. Students with school lunch will receive pancakes at no extra cost. Pre-Reception and Reception students will have pancakes delivered to their classroom as a special snack. Students in these grades should bring $10 to class is a sealed envelope to cover the cost of their yummy pancakes. Prep-Grade 1 who do not have school lunch, but who wish to participate can pay $35, and Grade 2-6 pay $38 . Prep-Grade 2 students should bring exact change in a labeled envelope, Grade 3-6 students may pay with cash or Octopus.
